Chinese New Year 2025 - Thing to Do
The year of the snake is just around the corner, and here is my carefully curated list of things to do during the vibrant festivities of Chinese New Year. This celebration is a wonderful opportunity, and here are some of the special places I am particularly excited about and would absolutely love to explore during this joyful holiday season.
1.Lunar New Year Lantern Carnival 2025
The Lunar New Year Lantern Carnivals take place across the city every year, where large-scale lanterns of various themes are put on display. This year, the lantern displays will be on view from January 23 to February 16, lighting up the Hong Kong Cultural Centre every day from 6pm to 11pm.
Aside from the display at Tsim Sha Tsui, there are usually several other Lunar New Year carnivals happening around town offering the public various lantern riddle games, dancing and singing performances, along with stage performances and other activities that highlight the characteristics of Chinese culture. More details coming soon, so stay tuned.
2 Lunar New Year Fireworks
Date: 31 Jan 2025
Held on the second day of Chinese New Year above our iconic Victoria Harbour, the Lunar New Year fireworks display will take place on January 30 this year to welcome the Year of the Snake. Featuring a whopping total of 23,888 pyrotechnic shells, the dazzling show begins at 8pm and will last for 23 minutes. Spectators can expect to see the lucky red number eight kicking off the show to symbolise well wishes, countless red peonies, silver peonies, red hearts, and six adorable panda heads light up the night sky. For the finale, the 'Dance of the Golden Snake' will round up the display with the rhythmic sound of gongs and drums. The façades of the HSBC main building in Central and the Convention & Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai will present a new LED light show to complement the fireworks.
3. Chinese New Year Night Parade
Date: 29 Jan 2025
The highly anticipated annual Chinese New Year Night Parade is set to return this year, joyfully celebrating the vibrant Year of the Snake on January 29. The festivities will officially kick off with an exciting street party beginning at 6 PM, where attendees can enjoy a delightful variety of entertainment including juggling acts, mesmerizing magic performances, energetic dancing, and captivating live music. The main parade itself is scheduled to start at 8 PM at the iconic Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza, and it will elegantly travel along the bustling Canton Road, Haiphong Road, and Nathan Road, ultimately concluding at the prestigious Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel. This year's event promises to be spectacular, featuring nine beautifully decorated floats and an impressive lineup of 46 performance groups, including the popular K-pop group Kep1er and the talented Thai boy band LYKN. For those wishing to catch a glimpse of the show, free viewing areas will be available along the entire parade route, so be sure to arrive early to secure a good spot!
Lee Gardens
Date: January 27 to 31
Lee Gardens warmly invites everyone to the exciting 'Bang! Pop! Spark! Party', a vibrant festive event featuring a wide array of engaging activities and cherished Chinese New Year traditions. Among the highlights of this grand celebration are the entertaining Lee Gardens Street Game, an exhilarating Hawkers Run, and an exciting Mahjong Tournament where participants have the chance to win fantastic prizes. Additionally, a lively bazaar will proudly showcase a selection of local brands, complemented by special performances and delightful pet pampering services for your furry friends.
Landmark
Date: Now to February 8
In celebration of the Lunar New Year, Landmark presents 'Flourishing Blooms,' a flower display by renowned artist Nicolai Bergmann. This is Bergmann's first major installation in Hong Kong, featuring over 50 types of flowers in a striking display at the Landmark Atrium.
Elements
Date: Now to February 16
Elements marks the Lunar New Year with the 'Embrace Springtime with Full Vigour' art installation by local artist Sonic Lam. The 5.5-metre tall peacock, made from vibrant fabrics and detailed patchwork, represents good luck and joy. Auspicious knots and traditional lanterns create a festive mood for the new year.
Go Park Sai Sha
Date: Now to February 16
Go Park Sai Sha launches its first Lunar New Year celebration, 'GO Blossom!' in collaboration with local plant art team Botanic Union and homegrown fragrance brand BeCandle. The centrepiece is a massive five-metre-tall heart-shaped peach blossom tree, where guests can enjoy the fresh, romantic scent of peach blossoms. Those who spend $100 or more can redeem a special blossom wishing wind chime to bring good luck and well wishes home for the new year to come.
‘Weaving Celebration of Fortunes’ at Pacific Place

Pacific Place and Starstreet Precinct are weaving together traditional and modern artistry with their installation ‘Weaving Celebration of Fortunes’. From the vibrant energy of a Lion Dance Parade and stunning rope art installations created by renowned knot designer Zoe Siu to exclusive ‘Woven Blessings’ Lai See packets and amazing shopping rewards – it’s surely one of the best Chinese New Year 2025 displays in the city.
Cityplaza
Date: January 16 – February 16, 2025
Cityplaza has teamed up with Coca-Cola to present 'Live Happy Cheers!' This retro diner concept features six interactive photo spots and zones for visitors to share heartfelt conversations and New Year blessings in a cheerful atmosphere. Exclusive Coca-Cola merch will also be available for purchase, along with a limited-edition 'Live Happy Cheers!' red packet set inspired by Coca-Cola’s firework-themed design, redeemable from now until January 28 with designated spending.
